Care at All Stages of Jesuit Life

For Jesuits, the annual Jubilarian Mass marks major milestones in their lives of service to others. In September 2017, hundreds of friends and family members gathered at two Masses to celebrate over 150 Jesuits on the anniversary of their entrance to the novitiate or being ordained priest. Both Masses were celebrated by Fr. John Cecero, SJ, provincial of the USA Northeast Province, and included numerous priests and brothers living at Murray-Weigel Hall and Campion Center, the province’s two health care communities.

The province’s first Giving Tuesday program took place in November 2017, benefiting the care for senior Jesuits and supporting Jesuit formation. More than 50 friends and benefactors took part in this one-day online giving campaign, raising more than $12,000.

Senior Jesuits living in Campion Center and Murray-Weigel are now increasingly connected to friends of the Jesuits. Each week, they receive and pray for hundreds of prayer intentions submitted to JesuitPrayer.org

Jesuit formation

Nine Jesuits novices are completing the first part of their Jesuit formation, immersed in studies, prayer and service based out of St. Andrew Hall in Syracuse, N.Y. Jesuit regents, including Steve Nicholson, SJ, and Dayne Malcolm, SJ, are serving the Cristo Rey schools in Baltimore and Atlanta, and Mike Lamanna, SJ, and Dickson Tiwelfil, SJ, are both serving in Micronesia.

First Assignments

Jesuit Fathers Daniel Corrou, Brett McLaughlin, Rudy Casals and AJ Rizzo all served in parishes during their first year of priesthood. Their first pastoral assignments help them enter into the lives of God’s people in deep and meaningful ways, impacting their spirituality for years to come.

Strategic Outreach

The East Coast vocations team has expanded to create strategic outreach and meaningful experiences for those discerning Jesuit vocations. In the upcoming months, those discerning vocations will have the chance to live and pray with the Jesuits of Ciszek Hall in the Bronx, to take part in a Jesuit-sponsored mission trip to Nicaragua and to attend a fall discernment retreat at Loyola Jesuit Center in Morristown, N.J.
